The McCready Foundation campus in Crisfield is located on Cork Point with a picturesque view of the Chesapeake Bay. It is accessible by land, air - and water. The healthcare complex has its own dock adjacent to the Emergency Department entrance so Smith and Tangier island residents can reach it by boat.
Crisfield is a quaint waterfront town in Somerset County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It is a hub of water commerce and a popular tourist destination with several fine restaurants, assorted gift shops and a variety of accommodations. Visitors can find a museum and heritage foundation named in honor of the city's most enduring civic legend, the late Gov. J. Millard Tawes. Crisfield also was the home of other nationally prominent figures, including, Harry Clifton "Curley" Byrd, a president of the University of Maryland and considered the land-grant institution's "modern-day" father; and the late Steve and Lem Ward, widely acknowledged as decoy-carving pioneers whose skills elevated the craft into a distinctive form of American folk art.
Somers Cove, a deepwater marina and charter fishing port, is also home to such annual festivals as the J. Millard Tawes Crab & Clam Bake and the National Hard Crab Derby, an annual Labor Day weekend festival started in 1947. The Daugherty Canal, originating at the Little Annemessex River near the City Dock, leads boaters past McCready hospital and to fishing, camping and water sports at neighboring Janes Island State Park.
Crisfield and McCready are about half hour's drive from two public universities, historic Princess Anne and Pocomoke City, several small airports, and the metropolitan center of the area - Salisbury. Oceanside attractions – a little over an hour away by car – include Maryland’s popular family resort, Ocean City, and the serene barrier island beaches of Assateague Island. Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York are within a day’s drive.
