Crisfield – Crisfield businessman Jay Tawes has been appointed first vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the McCready Foundation. The foundation includes McCready Memorial Hospital, the Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and the soon-to-open Chesapeake Cove Assisted Living Center.
Tawes has been a member of the board for a year and of the foundation’s associate board for four years. As chair of the marketing and fund raising committee, he lead the million dollar capital campaign to build the new Tawes Nursing Home. It now totals well over its goal at $1,028,000.
Tawes is president of the Tawes insurance agency. He was the 2009 recipient of the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore’s prestigious Frank H. Morris Humanitarian Award, reflecting his more than 30 years of volunteerism and leadership in his community.
He has been a volunteer fireman, a Wor-Wic board member. He’s been a member and leader of the Somerset County Economic Development Commission and the Crisfield Marketing Authority and has held several executive offices, including president, on the board of the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce. He is the chamber’s current vice president. He founded the annual Crisfield fish fry and has chaired Crisfield’s signature event, the annual Hard Crab Derby and Crisfield’s Labor Day Weekend waterman’s boat docking competition.
He and his wife Debbie have two grown children, Jayson Tawes and Jayna Grant, and one granddaughter, Isabella. |
