Diabetes Management Services
McCready developed its "Diabetes Management Services" program in 2007 to assist our community in addressing an abnormally high incidence of the disease.

According to an ongoing study by the Maryland Family Health Administration, Somerset County has the second-highest percentage of diabetics per capita in the state; 11.4%. Only Kent County is higher at 11.6%.

McCready also is a partner in the Tri-County Diabetes Alliance, a consortium of healthcare organizations in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties working to educate and assist those living with diabetes about what they can do to fend off this disease.

McCready offers periodic education programs sanctioned by the American Diabetes Association, including counseling for meal-planning.

The healthcare professionals at McCready are committed in every way possible to helping their neighbors confront this growing epidemic. To sign up for an upcoming seminar, or to learn more about what we have to offer, contact Sandy Sturgis at (410) 968-3194.

MISSION STATEMENT

Working toward empowering the diabetics in our community -- one person at a time using education and support -- to reach the goal of self-management of their disease”

Among the outreach efforts McCready supports is the “A1C Champions." The program's Web site describes it as ... "a patient-led approach to diabetes education"

"'A1C Champions' are people with diabetes who share diabetes self-management and lifestyle strategies based on extensive training and their personal experience
."

To kick off the program locally, Reggie Bishop lead a workshop at McCready where he offered personal testimony about his experiences coping with the disease.
