Pre-diabetes

Curious how your doctor determined you have diabetes? Standards set by the American Diabetes Association guide medical personnel in diagnosing the disease.

You should be checked for pre-diabetes -- or diabetes -- if you have two consecutive readings of the following criteria, in any order:

Pre-diabetes

  • Fasting sugar >100 and <126

Type 1 and 2 diabetes:

  • Nonfasting sugar > 200 and classic symptoms
  • Fasting sugar >126
