Type 1 or Type 2?

Here are brief summaries to help guide you in answering that question.

Type 1 Diabetes

The pancreas does not work right.  Cells in the pancreas that produce insulin are damaged or destroyed.  Little or no insulin is produced when you eat.

You might become sick and you may notice that you are losing weight without trying. If you have Type 1 diabetes, you are started on insulin immediately.

This type of diabetes is common in children or young adults.

Type 2 Diabetes

The pancreas may make some insulin, or it makes enough, but the body can’t use it properly. This type of diabetes usually occurs in the older, overweight or sedentary individuals. A growing number of young people and children are being diagnosed with this type of diabetes.
