John D. Samus of Crisfield has been a board member since 2003. His fellow McCready Foundation board members elected him president for 2009-2010. He previously served as first vice-chair and second vice-chair. He also headed the board’s Nominating Committee and was vice-chair of its Buildings and Grounds Committee.
A retired educator, Samus taught contemporary issues and history at Crisfield High and ultimately became the school's principal during a 30-year career. He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education at West Virginia University and a master’s degree from Salisbury (State) University.
He is a member of the board of directors of the Somerset County Library, and a member of the Maryland and Somerset County Retired Teachers associations.
He also has served on the board and the building committee of the Annemessex Ridge Property Owners Association.
Samus and his wife, Carol, have one son, Jason, of Owings Mills, MD.
Chris Sterling of Crisfield was a member of the McCready Associate Board for a year prior to being appointed to the Board of Directors in 2005. He currently serves as the board's first vice-chair. Sterling, a Certified Public Accountant, operates an accountancy practice in Crisfield.
He is a graduate of Crisfield High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at Salisbury University.
He is a member of the Maryland Society of Accountants, of the City of Crisfield Board of Zoning Appeals and the board of directors of the Crisfield Heritage Foundation.
He is first vice president and a past secretary of the Crisfield Lions Club and treasurer of the Crisfield Little League. He has been first vice president of the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as its president.
He and his wife, Vanessa, have two children, Nate, 12 and Emily, 9.
