The McCready Foundation's health-care campus owes its existence to a single, generous gift from a woman whose husband and child died in car-train wreck north of Crisfield. Since the early 1920s, Edward W. McCready Memorial Hospital has grown, thrived and relied upon the kindness of others also inspired by Caroline Pitkin McCready's selfless philanthropic gesture.
The reasons people give to charitable, not-for-profit organizations such as McCready are many. Some donors want to express their gratitude following a hospital stay. Others recognize the critical role the hospital and its affiliated nursing home play in our waterfront community and want to ensure their futures.
Occasionally, donors give to support a specific program -- such as our rehabilitation center or the emergency department, where urgent care is important and can save a life. Many contributed generously toward a $1-million community-based campaign to build the four-story Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, including a 30-unit assisted-living facility on the top floor.
We also receive donations from people in honor or in memory of a relative or a friend. Some donors give because a charitable donation can also mean a tax deduction.
From monetary contributions to donations of property or stock, people have a variety of ways to express their support or appreciation for McCready. Send an e-mail to Development Director Marie Witt or call her weekdays at (410) 968-1024
