The Choptank Electric Trust of Denton, MD graciously donated $3,865 to purchase an oversized operating-room stretcher for McCready Memorial Hospital. This “bariatric" stretcher is made especially to accommodate overweight or obese patients up to 750 pounds.
It can be used in the recovery room and during many surgical procedures. As the incidence of obesity in the United States' population continues to be a concern, having heavy-duty equipment like this stretcher is essential for hospitals large and small.
A spokeswoman for McCready said the medical staff was grateful to finally have a bariatric stretcher as an option at its disposal.
Shown (below) with the new stretcher are Lisa Kraus, McCready’s surgical services nurse manager, and Choptank Trust board member Robert Fitzgerald of Princess Anne. On the right is a standard-size stretcher for “normal” weight patients.
The trust has donated nearly $19,000 to McCready since 2006.
