The building fund for the new Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has rounded the $905,000 mark on its way to reaching a $1 million goal. The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore presented the McCready Foundation’s capital campaign with a $5,000 check in June, boosting cash donations and pledges from the community to $905,873.
The donation comes from the John and Hannah Handy Crisfield Improvement Fund, which is administered by the Community Foundation based in Salisbury. Accepting the gift from Community Foundation president Dr. J. Spicer Bell, right, is McCready C.E.O. Charles F. Pinkerman.
Bell also lent a helping hand to hold the ladder for campaign chairman Jay Tawes, who had the pleasant but precarious task of updating the fund-drive “thermometer” with the good news. Motorists can track the campaign's progress by watching the sign along (MD) Rt. 413 on the outskirts of Crisfield.
The new nursing home, which will open in the spring of 2010, will feature 76 skilled-nursing and rehabilitation beds and an entire floor to accommodate 30 assisted-living residents.
